LETTERS

Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) wrote more than 900 letters during the course of his life. He considered writing to be an art equivalent to pictorial art and took great care to express his feelings as faithfully as possible, using words which perfectly reflected his thoughts. These letters, addressed mostly to his brother Theo, but also to his sister Wil and to his friends, allow us to understand Van Gogh’s life, not only as an artist but also as a multi-faceted character. They are the ideal witness to the evolution of his work.
